A session is one actual class meeting — this Saturday's lesson, with its own date, time, topic and meeting link.
This is different from the schedule you set on the class itself. That's a description ("Saturdays 3pm") shown to students deciding whether to enrol. Sessions are the real diary entries, and they're what carry recordings, attendance and materials.
Add them from the Sessions tab inside a class.
Adding one session
On the Single Session tab:
Session Title — the topic, not the date. Intro to trigonometry is useful;
Class 4 is not. Students scanning their timetable read this.
Lesson (optional) — file it under one of your lessons. Worth doing: it
groups and numbers the session's recording for students, so they see
Trigonometry #3 of 8 instead of a loose video.
Date — today or later.
Start time and End time — both optional, but fill them in. Students plan around them, and they show on your dashboard's upcoming list.
Type — how the class runs, which decides whether a meeting link is needed.
Notes (optional) — topics covered, what to bring, prerequisites. Students see these.
Upcoming, Past and Cancelled
The three tabs split sessions by where they are in their life:
- Upcoming — scheduled, dated today or later
- Past — completed sessions, and scheduled ones whose date has gone by
- Cancelled — cancelled, kept for the record
That second point matters. A session you scheduled and never marked completed moves to Past on its own once the date passes. It doesn't sit in Upcoming forever pretending to be next week's class, and you can still mark it done or attach its recording from Past.
Upcoming groups by day, with Today and Tomorrow labelled.
Actions on a session
Mark Completed — after you've taught it. Completed sessions count toward the attendance percentages on the Students tab, so keep this current if you care about those numbers.
Cancel — for a class that won't happen. Students see it as cancelled rather than it vanishing, which is what you want when they've planned around it. Post a notice as well; cancelling a session doesn't notify anyone by itself.
Restore to Scheduled — undoes a cancel, or reopens a session marked complete too early.
Duplicate — copies the session's setup for next week. The fastest way to build a term one week at a time. If you know the whole term now, use recurring sessions instead.
Delete — removes it entirely. Use cancel instead unless it was created by mistake; deleting loses the attendance and recording links attached to it.
Meeting links
For online sessions, paste the Zoom, Meet or Teams link. Enrolled students see it on the session.
Two habits worth having:
- Add the link when you create the session, not an hour before. Students check the night before.
- A recurring meeting link is easier — one Zoom link reused for every session means you paste the same thing each time and students can bookmark it.
A workable weekly routine
- Sunday: create next week's session, add the meeting link
- After teaching: Mark Completed, attach the recording
- Monthly: check Past for sessions you never marked done
Marking sessions completed is the input to attendance percentages and your analytics. If you never do it, those numbers stay meaningless.
